Duma Tau
Linyanti, Botswana
- Exclusive luxury tented camp in the Linyanti waterway
- Private tree-shaded chalets overlooking a large lagoon
- Game-viewing hides, game drives, walks and river safaris
For an intimate communion with nature, Duma Tau – lion’s roar – is an exclusive and luxurious tented camp elevated under a shady grove in the Linyanti waterway.
Overlooking a large hippo-infested lagoon, the ten suites are on raised wooden decks under thatched roofs with canvas walls that seem to amplify the night sounds – and that lion’s roar. Each is luxuriously fitted with en suite bathrooms, soul-sapping beds, romantic outdoor showers and private viewing decks.
The main lodge, linked to the rooms by winding boardwalks, welcomes you and the African wilderness with open arms – and open sides, open decks and, most important, an open bar. The dining room, pool and lounge are a comfortable and relaxing communal area and you’ll need your camera when you use the guest toilet.
Duma Tau is in the 125,000ha Linyanti Wildlife Reserve on the western boundary of Chobe National Park. Game viewing is mostly land-based traversing of the floodplains of the Savuti Channel and the Linyanti River.
Hides along the Savuti provide spine-tingling close-ups of the wildlife - even your disposable point-and-shoot will capture enough detail to impress the tea ladies back home. Night drives and river safaris – water levels allowing - complete the fascinating encounter.
The Savuti is famous for its high concentrations of plains game and the predators – lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena and wild dog – have long since cottoned on to the fact. Huge herds of huge elephant move into the Linyanti floodplain during the dry months along with the noble sable and roan antelopes.
