Savuti Camp
Linyanti, Botswana
- Small and exclusive tented camp on the Savuti channel
- Excellent game viewing with hides, walks, and day and night drives
- Predator-rich Savuti and abundant plains game
Savuti Camp, in the Linyanti Wildlife Reserve adjacent to Chobe, is a game-viewing Mecca. It’s also quite a luxurious place to stay.
The camp is small and intimate with just seven tents and almost exclusive use of the reserve. Built on raised platforms the tents provide luxury and an intimate connection with the wilderness. The tents have open-air showers – some startlingly so – and large viewing decks overlooking the Savuti’s inexplicably dry channel.
The main lodge is a raised platform with open sides and thatch roof allowing sweeping views over the waterhole and providing cool lounge, bar and dining areas. The plunge pool also overlooks the waterhole so you won’t miss a thing while taking a dip – although you may have to shoo the elephants away to get in.
Daily activities include game drives, night drives, guided walking safaris and there are several hides cunningly placed near waterholes. Wildlife is prolific, especially in the parched winter months, and the Savuti is famous for its predators – lion, cheetah, leopard, wild dog and hyena.
The list of animals and birds in the area is as long as an elephant’s trunk – if you write really small. Some of the big names include elephant, buffalo, zebra, giraffe, wildebeest, red lechwe, roan, sable, eland, waterbuck and the African wild cat. The best part is that often you don’t need to leave the comfort of your easychair as the wildlife parades through the channel en route to a fresh waterhole.
