Chiefs Camp
Okavango, Botswana
- Luxurious camp on a large island
- Twelve luxury suites, private spa, fine dining and excellent wines
- Land- and water-based safari activities with plenty of high profile animals
Chief’s Camp on the island of the same name is a luxurious lodge in the treeline at the water’s edge.
The 12 luxurious bungalows on raised platforms, with cream-colour tented walls and cool thatch roofs, are luxurious and secluded. The en suite bathrooms have additional outdoor showers and the private viewing decks come with irresistible hammocks for that perfect ‘Wish you were’ photo.
The main lodge is an open-sided thatch construction with comfortable chunky wicker furniture, views across the delta and a cleverly positioned swimming pool. The food and wine are excellent and the lodge offers private spa treatments in the high season.
Safari activities take in land and water. Daily guided game drives follow in the tracks of the large animals, predators and plains game; water safaris on delta boats or traditional mekoro – water levels permitting – slide past herds of elephant and a gazillion riverine birds.
Chief’s Island – accessible only be air or specially adapted boat – is the delta’s largest, measuring around 70 x 25km, and has a high concentration of predators, plains game, riverine animals and a constant clamour of birds.
Predators on the island include the very rare wild dog, lion, cheetah and leopard. And white rhino have been re-introduced to the area making it the only place in Botswana where you can see these endangered tanks in their natural environment.
