Eagle Island Lodge
Okavango, Botswana
- Luxurious, exclusive and romantic lodge on an island in the delta
- Spectacular water-based safaris, walking trails and special extras
- Abundant birdlife and riparian wildlife
Eagle Island Camp uses the silent waterways to provide a peaceful retreat from the rigours of the outside world – and a hair-raising wildlife encounter.
The twelve rooms are enormous bungalows raised off the ground on wooden platforms with tented inners and a generous covering of thatch. The en suite facilities, private viewing deck with recliners and hammocks all add to the tranquil air of relaxation.
The main lodge has a splendid bar in the middle of the lagoon and a well-placed heated pool. The living area is an expanse of wood and thatch furnished with luxurious sofas and a few rather elegant dining venues.
Activities are governed by the water level but you’ll spend most of your time sliding quietly through the marshes in a traditional mekoro steered by your professional guide; or you’ll cruise through the channels in a special delta boat. Nature walks on the island offer a chance encounter with all manner of game and birdlife. When the delta recedes, you can explore the floodplains in an open 4x4 game viewing vehicle.
Birding is extraordinary: over 400 species have been identified and there are numerous specials including Pel’s fishing owl, black coucal, long toed plovers, brown fire finches and large flocks of wattled cranes.
As a special surprise, you could always top off the extreme luxury, sublime tranquillity and exhilarating activities with a private spa treatment or a special excursion – you’ll score many points.
