Abu Camp
Okavango, Botswana
- Small and exclusive camp overlooking a lagoon
- Large herds of plains game and plenty of birdlife
- Elephant-back safaris, game drives, night drives and mokoro trips
Abu Camp is a Wilderness Safaris lodge in a 160,000-ha private reserve on the western side of the Okavango Delta.
Six luxurious tents and a private villa sleeping four overlook a swampy lagoon where the elephants squelch and the birds twitter all day long. The suites are built on raised platforms and have en suite bathrooms, private viewing decks, luxurious mahogany four-posters or sleigh beds and hints of Victorian antiquity.
The private villa is on the opposite side of the lagoon and consists of two en suite rooms and living area on an enormous saligna deck. Shaded by large trees, the deck extends out over the lagoon and incorporates the pool from which elephants like to drink.
Raised walkways connect the rooms to the main lodge, which is a tucked under a broad canopy of ebony and fig trees. The deck winds around the trees and the living areas have sumptuous lagoon-facing sofas.
Activities offered at Abu Camp are game drives in open vehicles, night drives, walking safaris and water safaris in traditional mekoro. The highlight will be your interaction with the resident elephant herd. Elephant-back safaris offer a fascinating experience and a chance to see life from their perspective.
The delta is famous for its spectacular birding and wildlife is abundant in the area including giraffe, zebra, elephant, impala, tsessebe, lechwe, wildebeest, buffalo and warthogs. Lion stalk the plains and the resident pride take delight in scaring the crap out of guests in the middle of the night with their rasping grunts and chest-rattling roars hippos find this quite funny.
