Kwara Lodge
Okavango Delta, Botswana
- Luxury camp on the edge of a permanent lagoon in the Okavango Delta
- Fantastic game viewing and excellent riverine and woodland birding
- Full range of activities on land and water
The Kwara concession is a private reserve on the northern edge of the Okavango Delta that covers a staggering 170,000 hectares.
Throw in a luxury camp and you’ve got yourself a safari. Opening onto the lagoons and islands of the permanent delta waters and backing onto a floodplain and mopane woodland, Kwara Camp covers the range of Botswana’s diverse habitats.
The lodge is built amongst a grove of giant ebony trees on an island overlooking a lagoon. The eight tented rooms are luxury east-African replicas, built on raised decks and sheltered by cool thatch roofs; en suite bathrooms with twin vanities, large comfortable beds and a private viewing deck complete the safari package.
The delta is as famous for its aquatic and woodland birdlife as it is for its large plains herds and array of predators. Kwara Camp takes full advantage of its position and size to bring you an exceptional wildlife experience.
Safari activities include daily game drives, night drives, mekoro trips, river cruises and walking safaris – the whole lot, basically, and your rangers and trackers have all the experience, knowledge and charm you could ask for.
On the wildlife front, the area is home to lechwe, sitatunga, reedbuck, bushbuck, hippo, crocodile, elephant, buffalo, sable, roan, zebra, giraffe, wildebeest, impala and tsessebe. Licking their chops over this delightful menu are lion, hyena, wild dog, leopard and cheetah.
Birds you may see are kingfishers, pygmy geese, fish eagles, jacanas, darters and the elusive Pel’s fishing owl; the nearby Godikwe Lagoon has thousands of herons, storks and other nesting birds.
