Stanleys Camp
Okavango Delta, Botswana
- Comfortable tented camp overlooking a river and marshy floodplain
- Huge private concession offering a full range of safari activities
- Big game, plenty of plains herds and fascinating elephant walks
Built into the treeline along the Boro River and overlooking the seasonal marshes of the Okavango Delta, Stanley’s Camp is a classic delta safari lodge.
The eight tented suites are built on raised platforms on the banks of the Boro River. En suite bathrooms, large sleigh beds and stylish furniture make up the living space and a private deck, complete with Morris chairs and hammocks, make up the relaxing space.
The main lodge is a spectacular platform built around an enormous sausage tree. The stretched canvas roof and open sides keep the natural wilderness at arm’s reach.
Activities include day and night game drives on the open flood plains, water safaris in mekoro and delta boats, walking safaris and – at a very worthwhile extra cost – a walk with elephants.
On the elephant walk you will meet three habituated orphans and discover the fascinating world of these gentle family-oriented giants. You will set off on a gentle walk that ends with a bush picnic while your pachyderm companions mill about politely sticking a trunk in your ear or nosing about your salad.
The delta sustains an enormous diversity of wildlife from predators and plains game in the floodplains to the riverine birdlife. High concentrations of buffalo munch their way through the area with herds of up to 2,000 not uncommon; other big game includes elephant, giraffe, hippo, lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog and the wily hyena.
