Tubu Tree Camp
Okavango Delta, Botswana
- Casual and intimate camp on a large island in the Okavango Delta
- Five comfortable tented suites and a rather splendid main lodge
- Excellent game viewing and bird watching with a full range of activities
Tubu Tree Camp is on Hunda Island, the largest in the private Jao Reserve, which is in the north-west of the Okavango Delta.
Hiding under the generous tree canopy, five comfortable east-African tented rooms look out over the floodplains. Each tent is raised off the ground on a wooden platform and has an en suite bathroom with additional outdoor shower and a private viewing deck.
The main lodge is an airy expanse of timber and thatch; the pub and dining areas look out over the plains. The campfire and plunge pool offer the best of day and night-time relaxation.
The island has large area of permanently dry savannah, which makes it attractive to plains game and predators; the permanent waters of the adjacent delta offer abundant birdlife and riverine animals.
Activities include mokoro cruises, water safaris, guided walks, game drives, night drives and bird watching. The wildlife is as diverse as the range of activities and the birdlife is spectacular with specials like Pel’s fishing owl, wattled crane, slaty egrets, pink-throated longclaws, African skimmers and jacanas.
Plains game features highly on the agenda and you’re likely to see elephant, lion, zebra, red lechwe, giraffe, tsessebe and wildebeest on the floodplains; kudu, impala, leopard and bushbuck stick to the woodlands.
