Kensington Place
Higgovale, City Bowl, Cape Town
- Five-star service in a plush and intimate hotel
- Plenty of peace and quiet with bay, city and mountain views
- Conveniently located for a short walk to an array of fine restaurants and cafes
Expect lots of gorgeous things, just gorgeous things darling, at one of Cape Town’s most fabulous boutique hotels. Kensington Place is a small service-oriented hotel in a lush cleft of prestigious suburbia high on the slopes of Table Mountain.
Decor is understated and not much to write home about unless you have a large vocabulary to cover the range of brown tones on display. Bold swathes of colour and African pattenry do a wonderful job of brightening up the place.
The eight rooms are palatial and all have been richly decorated with either contemporary or classic styles. Bathrooms are seductive polished marble with wooden decking and sunken or free-standing tubs and power showers. You’ll have your own lounge area and a private terrace with bay, city or mountain views framed by the generous Jacaranda trees.
All the facilities and service offerings – bar, lounge, plunge pool and sundeck, 24-hour room service, wireless internet; and complimentary stuff like gym membership, beach bags and towels, DVD library and a bottomless decanter of port – pale by comparison to the professional service and personal attention you will get from Sasha and Belinda and their youthful accomplices.
Breakfast is a healthy continental spread in the cosy dining room with log fire – in winter – or in your room for a bit of naughtiness any time. On request, lunch and dinners can be whipped up by the in-house chef. But who wants to stay in when such delights await you along Kloof St a short walk away? And the friendly folk will give you the best advice, make reservations and get you there and back in your own time.
