De Waterkant Village
De Waterkant, Cape Town
- Live like a local in the heart of the gay village
- 80 Stylish serviced self-Catering apartments
- Be seen in the Cape Quarter
More European than African, De Waterkant looks a like a Tetris game dressed in pastel and the apartments open onto cobbled, tree-lined streets with pavement cafés dotted about at convenient intervals.
De Waterkant Village has a portfolio of 80 self-catering apartments, all within walking distance, ranging from basic studios to five-star suites with rooftop pools and splendid harbour and mountain views.
Every apartment is fully serviced and equipped with enough basic culinary tools for you to entertain in private or just feed yourself before the next foray into the gay village.
Decor is tasteful – as you’d expect in a gay village – and understated with the emphasis being where you are rather than where you staying. As they are historic monuments dating back to the early 1700s, the apartments are mostly long and thin requiring some practical shortcuts and ingenious use of space.
Being able to walk everywhere, you’ll live like a local when you stay in one of the Village apartments. There is a fabulous continental deli in the Cape Quarter – a fountain-centred miniature piazza – and supermarkets are nearby if you’re stocking up for the week.
Pavement cafés abound and you’ll have to watch your waistline during your stay; some motivation to visit the nearby gym or the (almost) gays only open swimming pool in Sea Point. After-dark activities range from stylish lounge bars, to karaoke nights in a gay club, of which there are several, to all-night steam rooms – in De Waterkant, the fun never stops.
