Victoria and Alfred Hotel
V & A Waterfront, Cape Town
- Charming hotel with a recently added twist of flair
- Supreme location on the gentler side of the working harbour
- Hot new seafood restaurant overlooking the harbour and Table Mountain
The first hotel to set up shop in the newly restored harbour, the Victoria and Alfred is a romantic hotel that is dear to many hearts. Originally a quayside warehouse built in 1904, the hotel offers inconspicuous front row seats at one of the most spectacular harbours in the world.
The decor features rich colours and a multitude of textures reflecting a careful blend of contemporary and classic styles. The result, surprisingly, is an elegant and relaxed air of luxurious comfort.
The 94 rooms have recently been given a thorough makeover and they now have lush carpeting, air-conditioning, flat-screen telly and DVD player, separate baths and showers, mini bars and all the rest. The coup de grace is the harbour on your doorstep; yachts, derricks, jetties, and piazzas jostle with each other in the foreground, while the Table Mountain keeps a sleepy eye on the whole affair from way up in the clouds.
The restaurant and cocktail bar, cryptically named OYO – the logo is even more cryptic and almost filthy, is a designer newcomer specialising in seafood and a stunning view. The chic bar features a walk-in wine cellar and offers pre-booked tastings.
The list of services is long but you may be interested to know they offer complimentary transfers to the nearby Virgin Active Health Club, 24-hour room service, wireless internet access and a luxury shuttle service should the plethora of activities and options at the Waterfront be too much to handle. |

Sweetie, this is as close to the V & A as you can be without actually getting wet. On a narrow quay, the harbour is all around you and the Waterfront complex has a vast array of attractions. |

A teeming tourist precinct overflowing with food, drink, entertainment, and sightseeing activities, the V & A Waterfront is also ridiculously well-positioned for city and beach carousing. |
