Le Quartier Francais
Franschhoek, Cape Winelands
- Sophisticated country living
- Small, intimate and discreet
- Five-star chef and your choice of restaurants
Le Quartier Français embodies all that Franschhoek aspires to: country living with oh-so-understated sophistication. Topping the charts year after year, this enterprising little hotel works hard to infuse new ideas with traditional, back-to-basics simplicity.
Bold colours sit cubist-like astride restored garage sale furniture and polished wood finishes and the whole is like a breezy summer’s day in the south of France. Rooms are large and effervescent with kindergarten fabrics beneath exposed beams and wood furniture – usual amenities apply only they are better than most usual amenities.
The hotel has a trio of restaurants under the inimitable force of the much lauded five-star chef, Margot Janse. ici is an upbeat French café that opens onto the street serving what some might call comfort food; Bread & Wine is a stand-alone restaurant in the Môreson wine estate offering platters of home-cured meats and freshly baked bread to the slosh of a glass or two; and the Tasting Room is the flagship restaurant with banquet-style courses and fine wines paired to perfection.
Part with some extra boodle and you’ll be the proud resident of a suite, where the luxury never stops and the service never ends. Private butler, personal pool, in-room spa treatments, complimentary mini-bar and a chef on demand have all been bundled into four suites opening onto a courtyard and pool.

Le Quartier is right in the village, off the main road in lush seclusion and surrounded by serrated mountain peaks every which way you turn. |

Self-styled gastro capital of South Africa, the gentle Franschhoek Valley has nurtured a distinct French heritage and an oil baron’s price tag. |
