Le Franschhoek

Franschhoek, Cape Winelands

  • The epicentre of luxury and romance
  • Fine dining in spectacular settings
  • Camelot Spa and a host of gentle country pursuits

Looking like a Dulux showroom, Le Franschhoek is the newest pearl in the string of boutique hotels and guest houses in Franschhoek - the valley of a thousand millionaires.

The exterior is classic Cape Dutch, with elephant-grey thatch and ivory white walls lapped by lush green grass; the interior features calming golden jasmine and a warm hue of sun-drenched saffron with splashes of serene off-whites.

The 63 en suite rooms have been coated with similar serenity and feature luxurious fittings, furnishings and an understated modernity reflected in the neat lines and simple shapes. Views take in the garden, river and mountain scenes that make Franschhoek famous.

With an elite culinary school just opened, expect to be bowled over in either the hotel dining room with sweeping views of the mountains or in the restaurant, Le Verger, which features al fresco dining in a large orchard, avante garde cooking and more of those mountain views.

Going one step further than listing the available activities, Le Franschhoek provides info, equipment, or animals as appropriate – in-hotel facilities include tennis, boules, hiking, and wine tasting on horseback. They will also assist with your wine and cheese tasting tours, golf at the Nicklaus-designed Pearl Valley and fly-fishing at Dewdale Farm.

Wellness centres are de rigueur for hotels in the region and not to be outdone, Le Franschhoek has a destination Camelot Spa and Wellness Centre to complete the romantic getaway-and-pamper-yourself-in-colour-coded-luxury picture.
