Le Petite Ferme
Franschhoek, Cape Winelands
- Five private suites with valley views, plunge pools and fireplaces
- Fabulous family-run restaurant and bar with all-weather verandah
- Gourmand’s delight with wine tastings and haute cuisine
With privacy, real luxury and a lord’s view of the Franschhoek Valley and mountains beyond, La Petite Ferme is not just another quaint French name for a quaint guest house in the Franschhoek Valley. Not by half.
La Petite Ferme is a small wine farm high on the Franschhoek Pass, with a family-run restaurant that wins awards and hearts and five secluded, luxury suites. Separated by winding walkways, each suite has a private plunge pool and nothing to see but the glorious valley with its quilted vineyards, tree-clogged rivers and sheer granite mountains fading to blue.
The suites are unfussy and old money with wicker furniture, rough-sawn roof beams and reed ceilings, hefty fireplaces, free-standing baths and wooden furniture that is ever so slightly ornate. While the decor exudes old-world charm, the luxury permits help from the new with private plunge pools, twin-headed showers, extended beds, percale linen, underfloor heating, air conditioning and a full mini bar – and that’s just the standard suites.
The restaurant is the proud heritage of three generations; the all-weather verandah keeps the valley in view and the menu changes according to season. Asian influences and African ingredients shine in a mouth-watering array of dishes that are paired with a handful of the farm’s own wines.
The sensational Haute Cabrière Cellar Restaurant across the road takes over at dinner time or the good folk at La Ferme will shuttle you into the Village, which has a beguiling array of world-class restaurants. Your taste buds remain the top priority with the staff at La Petite Ferme and they will arrange wine tastings in the valley for you – after you’ve sampled their own exclusive cellar of course.
