Roggeland
Dal Josaphat Valley, Cape Winelands
- Small family-run country hotel in a 300-year old estate
- Excellent food and wine in a cosy atmosphere
- Warm hospitality and discreet service
One of the more pre-eminent Cape Dutch manors on a 300-year-old estate and housed in a listed national monument, Roggeland Country Hotel offers spacious, airy country accommodation and intimate hospitality in the heart of the winelands.
With many original features including yellowwood beams and reed ceilings, deep casement windows, wooden shutters and furniture, and of course, surrounded by the estate and the moody mountains, Roggeland is the quintessential country hotel.
The en suite rooms are spacious and individually decorated with a rustic, cosy elegance. To compliment the views, the clear air, the silence, the vineyards and the pale mountains, they have hand-made linen, down duvets, ceiling fans, fresh flowers and hand-made soaps to make you feel right in the country. Add to this the conspicuous absence of a TV and those sad sachets of instant coffee and you will feel like a rather special guest in a fuddy duddy’s country home.
Dinners are a highly acclaimed feature at Roggeland starting with a pre-dinner mingle over wine and olive pickings; a gong will signal the end of the mingling and summon you to the dining room, which was the farmhouse kitchen complete with original stove and fireplace. The meal is a set menu of four courses that change daily and wine is paired with each dish. Ingredients are freshly plucked from the estate’s own garden and dressed for table d’hôte candlelit dinners.
