Summerwood is a small guest house in a large mansion, shrouded by age-old oaks and stinkwoods in suburban Stellenbosch, with high standards of luxury and service.
Trade in floral fabrics, wicker furniture and semi-precious antiques in the Stellenbosch area may soon rival that of the wine industry itself thanks to the local fixation with charming restored olde worlde manor houses. Summerwood is no exception but the large rooms, high ceilings and judicious use of the floral does lend itself to the lush and leafy surrounds.
With just nine en suite rooms, attention is personal and details are covered and your hosts Ann and Christian make a point of providing friendly intimate warmth and delight in calling their home your home.
The breakfast room has wonderful chunky terracotta tiles, wicker chairs and French doors leading onto the verandah and large pool; the dense garden peeps through thick (floral) drapes and the whole is a rather refreshing way to eat your yoghurt.
Use Summerwood guest house for an intimate base from which to explore the region’s attractions, visit wine farms and dine at some of the country’s best restaurants – Ann and Christian will do all the organising for you.
