Garden Route
Famous for its string of unpronounceable names the official Garden Route – officially – is a section along the South African coast between Heidelberg in the west and Storms River in the east. But there’s so much more to see and do that we’ve gone and added chunks all over the place.
Our Garden Route starts with Hermanus, charming capital of the self-styled Whale Route and proud owner of the best land-based sightings of Southern Right Whales this world has to offer.
We then head inland for an offbeat and often spectacular scenic cruise over mountains and through rivers on the famous Route 62 – home to wine farms, nature reserves, jaw-dropping desertscapes and Ronnie’s Sex Shop.
The official Garden Route includes the nouveau playground of Plettenberg Bay and the bustling seaside town of Knysna, which has retained much of its escapist charm. Forests, nature reserves, rivers, lakes and lagoons abound along this well-heeled stretch of folded coastline.
Extending eastwards are a number of five-star game lodges in private reserves offering some of the country’s most exclusive wildlife and ecotourism experiences; we call this section Garden Route Safaris and the cherry on a rather a splendid cake.
The Out2Africa consultants love the Garden Route, it's spectacular why wouldn't they! So they will happily book you a tailormade Garden Route itinerary, simply contact Out2Africa to book.
