Camp Fig Tree
Addo, Garden Route
- Small and exclusive safari lodge
- Large comfortable suites and luxury tented camp
- Excellent game-viewing in the Addo Elephant Park and surrounding reserves
Camp Figtree is a private lodge and tented safari camp set on top of the Zuurberg Mountain range, between the Addo Elephant National Park and Riverbend conservancy.
With four large colonial-style suites and a luxury tented camp with two units, the lodge guarantees intimacy and romance unparalleled. Although the romance bit is mostly up to you, you’d have to be pretty hard not be afflicted by the evocative charm; the view that would be complete if it weren’t for the dirty great fig tree at the back; the privacy; the beauty of the bush and the beguiling sounds of nature all through the night.
The lodge offers safaris at 9am or 3pm and most of the activity occurs in the nearby Addo Elephant Park. Your rough and ready ranger and his personal tracker will ensure you have informative game viewing trips and get to see the beasts of Addo – elephant (lots of them), buffalo (lots of them), black rhino, lion, hyena, kudu, bushbuck, wildebeest (gnu to you), caracal, warthog (bush pig) and jackal – to mention but a few.
Excursions to the Riverbend conservancy, Shamwari Game Reserve and within the grounds of the camp are an optional extra and well worth it; most can be self-drive outings and the lodge will supply transfers if you prefer.
With rim-flow swimming pools, large open-sided living areas and famous South African food and wine, you could want for little else but a couple of strapping heathens to carry you to bed at night.

Camp Figtree is near the entrance to the Addo Elephant Park – home to much more besides the grey giants – about an hour north of Port Elizabeth. |

Rolling hills and endless views characterise the Eastern Cape and the teeming animals of pre-colonial times are once again filling the valleys and plains. |
