Elephant House is an exclusive and luxurious guest house close to the Addo Elephant National Park and 45 minutes from Port Elizabeth.
The guest house is a member of the Inspirational Places group and has a classic colonial safari lodge theme – rustic textures, earthy tones, crisp white linen and wide verandahs with deep sofas overlooking the lush grounds.
The eight rooms are spacious and luxurious with large en suite bathrooms; each opens onto a courtyard and has a private balcony with sun loungers.
Dinner in the main house is a romantic three-course concoction and meals are arranged around your activities, of which there are many. Elephant House has an in-house safari operator that offers daily guided tours of the Addo Elephant Park and several private reserves nearby.
Wildlife, birding and natural wonders abound and your guide will provide fascinating insights into the marvels of the African ecosystem. The Addo Elephant Park has a large range of animals from the flightless dung beetle – very rare – to the largest concentration of elephants in the world. Other notable animals in the park include lion, black rhino, hyena, kudu, bushbuck, wildebeest, caracal, warthog and jackal. Shamwari Private Game Reserve offers big five experiences. Being outside the park, you won’t be woken before sunrise for a freezing game drive – safari activities keep to office hours.
