Kariega Game Lodge
Kariega, Garden Route
- Comfortable and relaxed lodge in a splendid game reserve
- Private log cabins with river-facing decks and an excellent restaurant
- Plenty to see and do on the river, in the park and at the beach
In African Family Robinson style, Kariega Lodge is a charming safari lodge retreat in the Kariega River Valley.
The enormous en suite log cabins, decorated with traditional African crafts, patterns and colours, snuggle into the thick bush and their private decks overlook the river.
The restaurant and bar won awards for design and architecture. With plenty of open space, glass sides and views to make you go, ‘Wow’ it’s easy to see why. Dinner is friendly, the service is hearty and life revolves around the wildlife.
The private nature reserves set their own rules and you’ll be up at sparrow’s for a frisky game drive with lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, hippo, giraffe, zebra and numerous antelope species itching for their turn on the stage. You’ll repeat the process in the evening to fill in the gaps of the morning.
Besides game drives you can cruise the river in the Kariega Queen – if just for the sheer irony of it; spot nesting fish eagles from your canoe; go mountain biking; fly fishing; or just laze by the pool between game drives.
If you can extract yourself from the total isolation of the fascinating game reserve, Kenton-on-Sea, about 15km away, has some of the finest beaches in the country and there some excellent golf courses nearby as well.
Oh, and this is a malaria-free area.
