The Marine Hotel
Hermanus, Garden Route
- Small five-star Relais & Chateaux hotel overlooking the bay
- Excellent dining in three themed restaurants
- Luxurious spa treatments and a private tidal pool
The Marine, as much by the simplicity of the name as by its Relais & Chateau status, is THE hotel in Hermanus.
The simple pure white walls surrounded by bright green grass contrast with the dramatic surrounds of aquamarine blue sea, purple-blue mountains and a sky that has a range of hues from brilliant blue to gun-metal grey. The classically-influenced interior is decorated with unobtrusive patterns and muted tones of ochre, rust and cream.
The 43 en suite rooms and suites supply the superior quality required by the prestigious hotel group and offer comfort and a beautiful view of either the ocean or the lush courtyard and Overberg Mountains.
The Pavilion is the hotel’s contemporary restaurant with South African specialities like pan-fried springbok with roasted pear and gorgonzola wrapped in pancetta; and roast rack of lamb with basil and potato crumpet. Seafood at The Marine is the less formal restaurant where butter-smeared hands are considered a sign of appreciation. Adjoining the sun lounge and cocktail bar is the Seafood Express - a single-price café serving cold dishes in a relaxed atmosphere.
Facilities at the hotel include a comprehensive beauty and wellness centre with a steam room and hydro table for gel and mud wraps. Book a salt rub and body massage by the tidal pool for a truly sensuous experience. The secluded heated saline heated saline pool, gift shop, tidal pool and internet lounge may go unnoticed with all the exciting activities outside the hotel.
