Knysna and Plettenberg Bay
Known as Plett by the band of SUV-toting yuppies who use this stunning stretch of coastline as a weekend getaway, Plettenberg Bay is a holiday town experiencing rapid growth in popularity.
Championship golf courses, polo fields, rivers, lagoons, mountain parks, nature reserves, vast beaches and some rather splendid hotels and restaurants is a recipe that’s going to appeal to anyone with a bit of spare moola lying around.
Hedged in by thick forests and sheer mountains on one side, and the landscaped lagoon and heads on the other, Knysna has retained much of its original charm and is the Garden Route’s most cherished town.
The main road is a heaving mangle of shops, delis, boutiques and galleries; and a wooden-decked waterfront development attracts tourists like moths to a candle. The lagoon provides a picturesque frontage to the abundant hotels and restaurants that serve the town, while two massive outcrops – known as The Heads – keep the rough seas out.
Knysna has a large and active gay population and, every May, plays host to the Pink Loerie Carnival – a gay mardi gras with a twist.
The Out2Africa consultants love the Garden Route, it's spectacular why wouldn't they! So they will happily book you a tailormade Garden Route itinerary, simply contact Out2Africa to book.
