The Plettenberg
Plettenberg Bay, Garden Route
- Small five-star Relais & Chateaux hotel
- Superb location above Lookout Beach – a favourite with the whales
- Excellent restaurant and modern spa
The Plettenberg is a modern hotel with traditional standards. The smooth white lines and off-white interiors whisper class and restraint and the Relais & Châteaux standards, if a little over-starched, are evident everywhere.
With a dramatic vantage point overlooking the bay, The Plettenberg has an enviable location; the swimming pools and the sea-facing rooms – go for a Lookout Beach view - certainly make the most of it.
The 38 rooms and suites vary in décor, size and aspect and all have been decorated with style and furnished with every comfort including air conditioning and the usual hotel frills.
Dinner is a stylish affair in Sand restaurant overlooking the ocean – specialities here are seafood and Karoo lamb and they come dressed in black tie.
The hotel has a purpose-built spa with modern facilities, piped ‘Sounds of the Forest’ and moody lighting. Two pools, one heated, disappear into the view and the newly erected Sandbar is a glass and white leather cove with rough-hewn sandstone walls and subtle lighting reminiscent of an exclusive urban hangout.
The Plettenberg doesn’t waste time trying to blow you away with brilliance and the back-to-basics hotel standards, convenient location and comfortable rooms lend themselves to a relaxing break between exciting outings along the Garden Route.
