Hilltop Country Lodge
George, Garden Route
- Luxurious guest house surrounded by nature reserve
- Magnificent view across the bay and out to sea
- Private rooms and homely intimacy
Lest you forget where you are, Hilltop Country Lodge provides a constant reminder with a dizzying view over the Kaaimans River mouth, Victoria Bay and the sweeping bay of Wilderness – yes, there’s a place called Wilderness along the ever-so-civilised Garden Route.
A 15-minute drive from George – and its airport – Hilltop Country Lodge is a squeaky clean and mousy quiet guest house in 15 hectares of private nature reserve so high you expect to see the South Pole on a clear day.
Wings were added to the original house and filled with big beds, useful bathrooms and view-enhancing balconies. Hilltop has eight rooms in all ranging from a lowly mountain-facing room to large deluxe suites; all have private entrances and terraces.
The egg-shaped pool is tucked away down the hill with a splendid deck complete with loungers and large umbrellas for some serious relaxing – the sea-view occupies a large portion of the frame as you would expect.
Activities are limited to whiling away the lazy hours of a day with board games and a wee honesty bar in the main house and nature walks criss-crossing the reserve offering different vantage points of the same spectacular view.
