Knysna Hollow
Knysna, Garden Route
- Relaxed, comfortable and convenient
- Close to the centre of Knysna
- Hearty restaurant and homely bar for lazy days in
Knysna Hollow occupies grounds large enough for a small golf course; offering a convenient location and casual resort-like accommodation this hotel is the perfect place to tee off your Garden Route explorations.
Indeed, on first inspection the main house bears a striking resemblance to a cosy and approachable clubhouse. A closer look at the lie will reveal a rather cosy and approachable restaurant and pub instead.
Forty-nine rooms are divided into semi-circular blocks and scattered over the estate; the 15 luxury chalets offer privacy and space – more space, that is, than the standard rooms which are spacious enough.
The restaurant is a cut above the old clubhouse with such delights as asparagus and brie or springbok carpaccio to start and hearty mains like slow-roasted Karoo lamb shank and butternut and tomato lasagne. Ice cream and hot chocolate fudge sauce or fresh fruit mille feuille should keep the sweet-tooths happy.
The Rutland Arms – serving a variety of quality South African wines and all-important nightcaps - will prop you up in times of need. The resort, ahem, hotel has pools, ponds and water features galore and discreet streetlamps, ahem, footlights illuminating the wide paved pathways.
Good weather will see you at the pool, on a lounger soaking up the sun; bad weather will see you in a couch, beside the fire soaking up the atmosphere.

Less than two miles from the centre of Knysna, you’re always close to the action while the estate is comfortably padded from the outside world by hills and ancient oaks. |

With Alpine-like forests, rivers, lakes and lagoons, Knysna has all the charm it needs; the fine restaurants, shops and array of activities are superfluous. |
