Rosenhof Guest House
Oudtshoorn, Route 62
- Rural charm
- Urban luxury
- Excellent food and wine
True to its name, the Rosenhof Country House occupies a manicured garden that has flower beds packed with roses, trellises covered with roses and pagodas swamped with roses.
And, less obvious, the main house is a true country house from the mid-19th century with a variety of lounges, day rooms, drawing rooms and ante rooms running the length of the building.
The hotel has 12 en suite rooms and 2 executive suites – with private plunge pools, fireplaces and matching his and hers robes – all have air conditioning and heating, satellite TV, mini bar and hairdryers.
Dining is a South African extravaganza with a hint of cordon bleu – a meat-lover’s heaven; the wine cellar features many excellent locally produced vintages. The lounges have fireplaces, the cosy pub will lure you away from your calling bed and there are antiques and fine art to discover throughout the hotel.
After the luxurious rooms, the excellent food and the serene setting there’s a string of facilities that will tempt you away from exploring the great beyond. The pool is large and inviting with loungers and umbrellas; pagodas scattered about the place make for a relaxing retreat and a splendid cup of tea; the wellness centre offers a range of treatments and has a jacuzzi, sauna and gym.

Rosenhof Country House is on the outskirts of Oudtshoorn and around the corner from its more rustic cousin, Riempie Estate. |
 |

Route 62 is a journey of diversity that will take you from bum-clenching mountain passes through fertile citrus valleys and wine farms to semi-arid pancake-flat desert with game farms. |
