Buffelsdrift Lodge
Oudtshoorn, Route 62
- Casual game lodge at the edge of a waterhole on the outskirts of Oudtshoorn
- Four-star luxury with 25 tented rooms, an à la carte menu and Route 62 wine
- Fascinating wildlife, birding and indigenous plants
Buffelsdrift is a game lodge with a spectacular setting on a natural waterhole in the Cango Valley with a backdrop of the Swartberg Mountains.
The main lodge is a wood and thatch structure built on stilts in the waterhole; a large restaurant, bar and viewing deck make up the important features of the complex. With 25 luxury tented rooms, each with private deck at the water’s edge, you can blend in or be the star of the show as you choose.
Birding is fantastic – 217 endemic species on record – and the game rangers will provide plenty of interesting stories about the local flora. Wildlife at the lodge includes elephant, buffalo, hippo, rhino, zebra, giraffe, eland, kudu, hartebeest, wildebeest and waterbuck.
The à la carte restaurant showcases the hearty Karoo appetite with specialities of lamb, ostrich and freshly baked bread with homemade preserves. Ingredients are fresh and locally sourced for the authentic taste. Route 62 happens to be the longest wine route in the world and their wine list is a reflection of the variety available.
The lodge offers morning and evening game drives in open vehicles, guided safaris, horseback trails and elephant walks.
