La Plume Guest House
Oudtshoorn, Route 62
- Warm country hospitality on a working farm close to Oudtshoorn
- Intimate and elegant guest house
- Sweeping views across the valley to some natty blue mountains
The feather in La Plume’s cap is the sweeping view of the Oliphants River Valley with the Swartberg Mountains in the background. On a working farm – ostriches, alfalfa and grape vines – the farmhouse style is as genuine as the warm welcome you’ll receive from Karin and Bartel.
The ten rooms are individually decorated with a charming Victorian style; wrought iron bedsteads and elegant antiques fit comfortably with the wooden floors and private garden-view terraces.
Air-conditioning – essential in the Karoo – is available in every room as are mini bars – also essential in the Karoo - and satellite TV – entirely superfluous but for the amusing local adverts and mind boggling soaps.
An English breakfast welcomes each new day and the sparkling pool will cool you off at the end. If you requested dinner at booking time, be good to yourself and have the ostrich steaks – Karin’s well-guarded speciality.
Bartel will give you an insider’s tour of the ostrich farm and vineyards and La Plume is a perfect base from which to explore the sights, sounds, smells, tastes and textures of Oudtshoorn, the Klein Karoo and Route 62.
