Mimosa Lodge
Montagu, Route 62
- Sophisticated hotel with olde worlde charm and intimate hospitality
- Excellent restaurant and cellar
- Romance a-plenty with lazy days by the pool and cosy evenings by the fire
Under the guidance of owners Bernhard and Fida, the Mimosa Lodge has retained the age-old charm of the building and the town while the service and attention to detail have been given a Teutonic dusting by the Swiss-German duo and excellence prevails throughout.
Nine classic rooms and seven suites have been decorated with individual attention and decked out in warm colours and welcoming furniture. The suites feature separate bath and shower, hi-fi systems (with a large CD collection) and private terraces opening onto the garden. The rooms are in the original house and feature art deco pieces and en suite bathrooms. Best of all though is the orchard suite – a luxurious double-volume space with a private pool and plenty of romance.
Bernhard is a Swiss-trained chef with a string of restaurants to his name; so it’s little wonder that the continental-style food is a feature of this intimate establishment making it a favourite DW spot for locals looking for some relaxing wining and dining in a friendly atmosphere. Much of the ingredients are grown in the back garden and Bernhard blends his own wine to match his extravagant dishes.
If gambolling about the countryside seems a little common, there’s plenty to while away the hours between feasts at the hotel. You can laze by the heated saltwater pool; read in The Club – an art deco lounge with piano, log fireplace and a well-stocked library; play boules; or take in the estate with its variety of local flora and the enormous potager.

Route 62 is a journey of diversity that will take you from bum-clenching mountain passes through fertile citrus valleys and wine farms to semi-arid pancake-flat desert with game farms. |
