Honeyguide Mantobeni
Manyeleti, Greater Kruger Park
- Elegant and stylish tented bush camp
- Excellent food and wine
- Game drives, walking safaris, star-gazing and night viewing
The Honeyguide Tented Safari Camps are a dual offering in the Manyeleti Game Reserve and they are equally luxurious and authentic bush experiences.
Mantobeni Camp reflects an earlier romantic period where every shade of ivory was de rigueur and soft bulging leather couches were essential items. The 12 tented suites are raised on platforms and feature en suite bathrooms with concrete baths, double showers and separate thrones.
The main living area is a spacious collection of sitting areas that lead out to the pool and sundeck. The waterhole and dry riverbed, in sight of the main lodge, provide a passing parade of wildlife.
Dining is another contemporary realm of excitement as the lauded head chef of Sides Restaurant fame in Joburg creates dishes of simplicity and presentation that emphasise the quality of ingredients.
Game viewing takes place early in the morning, when the drums will roll you out of bed, and in the late afternoon when you’ll be bleary-eyed for a short while after your coma-like afternoon doze. Mid-morning walking safaris focus on smaller animals, fascinating plant life and bizarre insects.
The region is drought-prone – bad for the animals, good for game viewing – and even during the so-called rainy season, water is often scarce. Waterholes are regularly populated by a large cross-section of the animal kingdom from swarthy warthogs to gangly giraffe. Predators, like eager game-viewers, prey on animals as they come to drink.
