Singita Private Game Reserve is one of the finest in the world and its two lodges are annual contenders for the best of the best.
Boulders Lodge weaves through the riverine forest like the Sand River below. Chunky rock, concrete, tree and thatch structures merge into the deep shade of the jackalberries and every square inch of the lodge will bowl you over.
The nine suites are enormous spaces with floor-to-ceiling sliding doors opening onto a deck from both the bedroom and the palatial bathroom. Colours are muted versions of a pristine wilderness and the West African artefacts add a lush exotic air.
The main lodge, where your fine dining extravaganza may or may not be served, features an enormous deck built around an even bigger tree. Fairy dust is everywhere – on your plate, in your glass, at the spa, behind the smiles and woven into the views of the African bush.
The wilderness experience is a well-oiled machine. Eloquent and mind-bogglingly knowledgeable rangers take you on game drives in custom-made vehicles pointing out amazing facts and fascinating details that may make sightings of the ‘magnificent seven’ seem mundane.
Big game and their lesser-known accessories course through the 18,500 hectares of private game reserve and your daily morning and evening game drives will weave a winding trail in pursuit of the wildlife. Mid-morning bush walks, aside from helping to ease the pain of over-indulging at breakfast, will provide a fascinating first-hand encounter with the real African bush.
