Thornybush Shumbalala Lodge
Thornybush, Greater Kruger Park
- Five-star luxury in a small lodge with enormous suites
- Five suites with secluded decks overlooking the river
- High concentration of lion and other big game in a private reserve
Offering the classic African safari, Thornybush Lodge has several lodges with a range of styles and luxury.
Meaning ‘where the lion sleeps’, Shumbalala Lodge is indeed a safari lodge fit for the king of beasts. A sprawling lodge along the seasonal Monwana River in the Thornybush Game Reserve, Shumbalala Lodges offers intimate luxury and secluded privacy.
The pride of the five luxurious accommodation options is the presidential suite, which comprises a double suite and an open fire-lit dining deck and a private plunge pool. The four other suites would suit any lioness not looking to be king of the jungle but equally demanding of the highest standards.
The living areas are sophisticated and elegant. The interior is filled with chunky teak furniture and soft leather couches; large windows bring in the view while the huge fireplace keeps the cold out. The wine cellar overlooks the bush and is a romantic venue for two; you can also join the other guests in the dining room or on the deck beside an open fire under the stars.
The game-viewing experience is an intimate and personalised experience. Your ranger will entertain and amaze you while his tracker quietly picks up the trail of one of the ‘big five’ or some other fascinating beast of the bush.
Activities include two daily games drives – one very early and one late afternoon – and optional walking safaris after breakfast where you will see, hear, smell, feel and even taste the true African bush.
