Madikwe River Lodge is a charming riverside lodge built on a raised platform and shaded by deep thatch and the dense riparian forest canopy.
Lining the banks of the Great Marico River, the lodge has 16 split-level thatched chalets that are connected to the lodge by elevated wooden walkways. Each chalet has a private deck that overlooks the river; en suite bathroom, large comfortable beds and a standard range of amenities. The suite goes one better with a separate lounge area and a romantic outdoor shower.
Making the most of the great outdoors, delicious meals are cooked over an open fire and served on an island boma. Inclement weather brings the beautiful dining room, with open sides and warm lighting into play and the sundeck is your breakfast and lunch venue. Summer months offer the opportunity of a barbeque in the bush and a memory to savour for many years to come.
Game viewing is the obvious focus here and your expert ranger will take you on game drives in purpose-built 4x4 vehicles in search of Africa’s famous wild animals. Early morning drives offer a chance to see a changing of the guard and the afternoon game drives catch the animals at their after work drinks party; the return journey sees the night shift clocking in as many fascinating nocturnal creatures go about their business.
Walking trails offer a sensory extravaganza as your ranger will introduce you to the plants, insects and lesser-known creatures of the wild.
