Legacy Hotels has three self-styled bush lodges in the Pilanesberg National Park catering for a variety of tastes and pockets.
Bakubung Bush Lodge is a resort-like hotel at the foot of a large wooded hill. The hotel forms a buffalo-horn crescent around the entertainment area; a park lawn extends to a dam that is a popular meeting place for many of Africa’s famous wild animals.
The décor is nondescript chain hotel but the cool thatch, tiled floors, open sides and lush garden go a long way in setting the scene for a relaxing break in the middle of the African bush.
You’ve got a choice of thatched studio or chalet and with a total of 140 rooms there’s a good chance you’ll get what you want. Each is equipped with en suite bathroom, air conditioning, satellite TV, direct-dial phones, hair dryers and coffee stations.
Dining is a themed extravaganza in the large thatched restaurant or under the stars on a clear night by the light of an open fire. The á la carte menu caters for all tastes and appetites and the wine list offers the best of South Africa’s favourites.
If the game drives and bush walks don’t leave you exhausted, the activities and facilities will: board games, table tennis, darts, outdoor chess, children's adventure playground, natural rock-hewn pool, two floodlit tennis courts, volleyball court and… pant, pant… action cricket.
