The Cascades
Sun City Resort, Sun City
- Elegant Mediterranean-themed hotel
- Spacious, comfortable and well-appointed rooms
- Water features, pools, jacuzzis and a sandy beach bar
The Cascades hotel is built around a series of enormous pools that spill into each other and lap a sandy beach. The theme at this Sun City hotel is a combination Mediterranean/Miami with an emphasis on all things blue and shiny.
The hotel towers above the sprawling pools and landscaped garden surrounds like a two-dimensional pyramid. Décor is polished, plush and thrusts swank in your face like an Asian street-peddler selling hand-carved trinkets.
The 243 rooms are all air-conditioned and have mini bars, en suite bathrooms with separate showers and views of the gardens with its lagoons and cascading water features.
Santorini is a Greek restaurant with a bright and breezy atmosphere; the Peninsula overlooks the lake and serves standard international dishes with a few local touches thrown in.
While Tom won’t exactly be there himself, the pool bar makes a passing reference to Cocktail; the pool deck offers light snacks and day-long refreshment; the Vistas Bar looks over the lake and gardens and provides light snacks and stays open late-ish; the Peninsula lobby bar won’t keep you for longer than a quick pre-dinner drink or an after-event nightcap. |
