The Royal Livingstone
Livingstone, Zambia
- Spectacular location above the falls on the edge of the river
- Five-star luxury, services and facilities
- One-stop activity booking centre
The Royal Livingstone is a grand new ostentatious addition to the array of riverside lodges sprouting up in Zambia. Ridiculously close to the river and the falls, the hotel is part of a resort that is strung out along the river in barefaced adoration of the natural wonder that attracts visitors from very far away.
Dressed up in finest great white hunter-colonial chic with trophies and artefacts on display throughout, the theme is an unmistakable imitation of times gone by when luxury was a given and no expense spared in its pursuit.
Rooms too are steeped in the African luxury that yesteryear would have us believe was the norm; but they didn’t have air-conditioning and walk-in showers in those days. They may have had 24-hour room service but it would have been a far cry from what’s on offer at the Royal Livingstone. All have shady balconies that gaze out over the river and the cloud of spray from the falls.
Dining is as influenced by the African theme as by the finest cooking schools in the world – try a terrine of wild boar with cumberland sauce, roasted Zambezi bream with chilli sambal and cornmeal dumplings, or filleted strips of Kudu with ginger and garlic, green beans and sweet potato fries. Tea, naturally, is taken in the lounge, and luncheon on the verandah overlooking the river.
The Entertainment Centre is your one-stop shop for organising everything from foreign exchange to upriver canoeing safaris and the range of activities is tremendous - either spend your time wisely or extend your stay.

The Royal Livingstone extends along the edge of the river like the snake-like Zambezi River God and the resort lords over the view like the colonial explorers it emulates. |

Seventh Natural Wonder, adventure capital, wildlife destination and home to some rather splendid hotels, the Victoria Falls will capture your heart. |
