Victoria Falls Zimbabwe

Feeling the venom of the presidential bite, the town of Victoria Falls is a shadow of its former self. And fortunately so for it was in grave danger of becoming a victim of its own success: shopping malls were being developed for hell’s sake.

However, the town has soldiered on despite the setbacks and provides basic shopping and tourist amenities with booking offices for the numerous adrenaline-based activities, wildlife safaris and more civilised pursuits like sunset cruises.

Several grand hotels have also withstood the test of a despot and maintained the highest international standards; the views have remained unchanged for eons. Service is invariably warm and genuinely friendly belying the poverty of a ravaged country.

The town has a few restaurants and bars that are frequented by shaggy backpacker types swapping stories of how they flipped on Rapid 18 while most of the hotels have sunset-facing bars and excellent restaurants that are open to the public.

The convenience of the town lies in its close proximity to the falls and its enclosing national park. On a quiet evening you can hear the water thundering away and the holiday town feel is accentuated by the fact that everything is within walking distance and the scarcity of fuel means the roads are relatively quiet.

At Out2Africa we would love nothing better than to send you on the safari holiday of a lifetime so simply contact Out2Africa to book your special tailormade itinerary, companions not included but welcome!
