Vic Falls Safari Lodge
Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe
- Award-winning timber structure overlooking a waterhole
- Spectacular view of the African bush from private balconies
- Excellent food, drink, service and wildlife activities
An architectural study into the elaborate use of timber and thatch, the Vic Falls Safari Lodge – SafLodge to the locals – is a marvel of inconspicuous opulence. Seen from a short way off, the lodge appears nothing more than a few thatched peaks rising above the dense bush; seen from inside the lodge appears nothing less than a labyrinth of decks, mezzanines, lounges, restaurants and bars.
The en suite rooms – 66 of them have gaudy African prints, warm African colours and a spectacular African view from the generous private balconies onto which the room-wide glass-filled concertina doors open. Then there are the six suites - if they’re out of your league start saving. Walk into your sunken lounge which opens onto a sunset-facing balcony with views over the waterhole and into the National Park beyond; climb the open stairway to your room with its raised bathroom, power shower and luxurious toiletries.
The Makuwa-Kuwa is a two-tiered restaurant that overlooks the game park and the lengthy a la carte menu combines local specialities with contemporary dishes. The Boma restaurant beats tackiness by a whisker and succeeds in presenting a vast array of traditional Zimbabwean dishes in a heavily themed African village setting. The Buffalo Bar is a game-viewing platform overlooking the waterhole with some comfy high-backed chairs that you can laze in for hours.
Situated in a wildlife area and adjoining the Zambezi National Park, the Safari Lodge is a popular wildlife destination. And with the falls a five-minute shuttle away, you will be getting the best of both worlds in a unique and spectacular lodge.
