Out in Africa Film Festival
Cape Town, South Africa
Out in Africa is an annual Gay & Lesbian Film festival at the Cinema Nouveau in the V & A Waterfront. With classics, new releases and local film on show daily, you’ll need to pick up a programme or visit their website. If you miss the festival, fear not for every Wednesday is Pink Wednesday at the same cinema.

Klein Karoo Nationale Kunstefees
Oudtshoorn, South Africa
On its way to becoming one of the country’s premier music and arts festivals the KKNK brings together aver 1000 artists in hundreds of productions. Staged in Oudtshoorn on the Garden Route, the festival is a showcase of the alternative Afrikaaner culture and the atmosphere is intoxicating. You’ll need your English-Afrikaans dictionary or find yourself a local who’ll do all the translating for you.

Pink Loerie Mardi Gras
Knysna, South Africa
Pink Loerie is a decadent carnival in the charming Garden Route town of Knysna. Oysters and champagne, feathers and boas and a liberal pink blanket sweep through the town and there are shows, parties, exhibitions, parades and plenty of action.

National Arts Festival
Grahamstown, South Africa
Every year, this sleepy student town on the edge of the Garden Route  plays host to one of the largest arts festivals in the world. A massive line-up of international and local shows will blow you away and the fringe festival gives Edinburgh a run for its money. Book in advance, dress warmly and bring your party hat.

MCQP - Mother City Queer Project
Cape Town, South Africa
Celebrating life, the universe and all things gay, the MCQP is an annual extravaganza of galactic proportions. Costumes, shows, dancing and a feast of activities all come together on a single night of dazzling lights and bewildering colours – each year a new theme and it’s a dress-up all the way to your naughty bits.

Both are excellent gay lifestyle websites that provide broad range of information.

In Cape Town and the other major cities, there is ALWAYS something exciting happening: food and wine festivals, arts, theatre, outdoor shows, music events and then a whole lot of things you’ve never even heard of.
