Itinerary
Day 1 - 5: Cape Town
Pick up your hired car on arrival at Cape Town Airport and drive to your hotel – about 20 minutes if you don’t get too lost. Cape Town and the whole region are easy to navigate and the roads are well sign-posted – but do get hold of a good street map beforehand.
You’ve got five nights in Cape Town. A year is not enough but you may as well start somewhere. Do talk to your Out2Africa consultant about day trips and excursions if you want to experience the best that Cape Town has to offer.
• Sprinklings of Fairy Dust: Protea Hotel President • Heaps of Fairy Dust: O on Kloof
Day 6: Cape Winelands
The drive to the picturesque winelands village of Franschhoek takes up to an hour and a half. Visit some wine farms in the valley and dine at one of the country’s best restaurants before relinquishing all self-control to the luxury of your hotel.
• Sprinklings of Fairy Dust: Le Franschhoek • Heaps of Fairy Dust: Klein Genot
Day 7: Oudtshoorn
Drive to Oudtshoorn along Route 62 – the scenic alternative to the highway. The road goes over spectacular mountain passes, through wine regions, artsy villages, Karoo farms and the past the Cango Caves. Have another fabulous dinner at one of many award-winning restaurants in the town.
• Sprinklings of Fairy Dust: Riempie Estate • Heaps of Fairy Dust: Rosenhof Country House
Day 8 – 9: Knysna
Visit the Gay Dairy of Prince Albert via the scenic Swartberg Pass and then set off for your next destination: Knysna, home of the Pink Loerie, oysters, champagne and a rather beautiful lagoon.
Outdoor activities in the area range from sheer indulgence to sheer madness: forest canopy trails, ferry tours, train trips, hiking, biking, canoeing and more. Indoors tends to be a little more sedate with fine restaurants and cosy lounges the clear winners.
• Sprinklings of Fairy Dust: Knysna Quays • Heaps of Fairy Dust: Pezula Resort & Spa
Day 10 – 12: Garden Route Safari
Drive up the coast and then head inland to your private game reserve in Eastern Cape – about four hours away. Arrive in time for lunch, a doze and your first game drive.
Your days will be filled with fascinating wildlife and wilderness encounters: serene sunrise game drives, bush walks and afternoon safaris that stretch into the evening. Activities are conveniently punctuated with enormous meals and recuperation time by the pool, in your room or on the spa treatment bench.
• Sprinklings of Fairy Dust: Kariega Lodge • Heaps of Fairy Dust: Kwandwe Lodge
Day 13: Port Elizabeth
After your morning safari and a hearty breakfast, take the two-hour drive to Port Elizabeth Airport and the end of an amazing 13 days.
