Itinerary
Day 1: Cape Peninsula
The early bird catches the biggest slice of cheese. The tour starts at 8.30am and sets off to Paarl.
Explore the beautiful region including a trip to the Victor Vorster Prison, scene of Nelson Mandela’s famous final Walk to Freedom. The aptly named Nelson’s Creek wine farm will give you a fascinating cellar tour that will whet your taste for the wine that follows.
Franschhoek is your next port of call and this picturesque village has many interesting attractions dating back to the time of the French settlement including the Huguenot Memorial. Sample more wine with some cheese to go with it before stopping for lunch at one of the many excellent restaurants in the town.
Traverse the spectacular Helshoogte pass on your way to Stellenbosch. Explore the town before moving on to your next wine farm – which is actually a showcase for over 100 vineyards in the area. The farm also has a large dam and picnic area as well as a wildlife rehabilitation programme with habituated cheetah that don’t mind the odd pat on the back from admiring visitors.
Clink your way back to Cape Town in time for evening cocktails where you can tally up the purchases you made during your marvellous winelands excursion.
